For the Whipped Cream:

1 1/2 cups heavy cream, very cold

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch square pan or a 9-inch round pan.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.

4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.

5. Gradually add dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix only until combined.

6. Pour batter evenly into prepared pan. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

7. Cool cake in pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

8. For whipped cream, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla on high until stiff peaks form.

9. Spread whipped cream generously over cooled cake, slice, and serve.

Notes

Ensure eggs, butter, and milk are at room temperature for the best texture.

Do not overmix once flour is added, as it makes the cake tough.

Check the cake a few minutes before the timer ends to avoid overbaking.
