Description
Classic French Butter Cake with a tender crumb, golden crust, and rich buttery flavor. Simple yet elegant, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs, room temperature
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch cake pan.
2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 3–5 minutes.
3. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
4. Mix in vanilla extract until combined.
5. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
6. Gradually add dry mixture to wet ingredients on low speed.
7. Pour in milk and mix until smooth. Do not overbeat.
8. Transfer batter to prepared pan, smoothing top.
9. Bake 40–50 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
10. Cool 10–15 minutes in pan, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
11. Dust with powdered sugar or serve plain.
Notes
Use high-quality unsalted butter for best flavor.
Do not overmix batter after adding flour to keep crumb tender.
Serve plain, with powdered sugar, or with fruit compote.
Store at room temperature 3 days, or freeze up to 2 months.
