Description
The Neiman Marcus Cake Recipe is a classic Southern dessert also known as gooey butter cake. With a chewy yellow cake base and a rich cream cheese topping, it’s indulgent, simple to make, and always a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 large eggs
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
3 1/2 – 4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
2. In a bowl, combine yellow cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg until a thick dough forms. Press evenly into the prepared pan to form the base.
3. In another bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add the remaining 2 eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
4. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until smooth and creamy.
5. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake base, spreading evenly.
6. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until edges are golden brown but center remains slightly gooey.
7. Cool completely before slicing into squares and serving.
Notes
For a less sweet version, reduce powdered sugar to 2.5–3 cups.
Try chocolate or lemon cake mix for fun variations.
Always cool completely before cutting to let the layers set properly.
Cake can be stored at room temperature for 2 days, refrigerated for 1 week, or frozen for up to 3 months.
